General Check-Ups & Preventative Care

We focus on gentle care for the whole family, helping you stop dental issues before they start. Our team of experienced dentists and hygienists are here to help with:
  • Routine check-ups and thorough cleans
  • Gum health and maintenance
  • Comfortable, long-lasting fillings
  • Children's dentistry (Medicare CDBS)
  • A Child's First Visit To help kids build healthy habits without the fear, we recommend bringing them in for a quick visit by age two. This lets us track their development early and ensures they grow up feeling completely relaxed in the dentist's chair.

Oral Hygiene

A healthy mouth plays a big part in your overall wellbeing.
Our main goal is to help you keep your natural teeth for life. To do this, we recommend a simple routine: brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush, floss before bed, and visit us at Teeth@Mittagong every six months so we can catch any little issues before they become big ones.

Periodontal Disease

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile.
Taking care of your gums is one of the best ways to keep your natural teeth for life and support your overall wellbeing, including your heart and respiratory health.

What are the signs of gum disease?

It is important to visit us if you notice bleeding when you brush, swollen or tender gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums, or loose teeth. If you experience any of these, our dentists and dental hygienist are here to provide expert care to protect your smile.

Fillings

When a tooth is affected by decay, a filling is a simple way to stop the damage and restore its strength.
At Teeth@Mittagong, we use modern, highly durable "white fillings" to gently repair your tooth and protect it from future issues.

The benefits of composite resin fillings…

These modern fillings are wonderful because they are colour-matched to blend right in with your natural smile. They also bond directly to the inside of your tooth for extra support, which means we can preserve as much of your original, healthy tooth as possible.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Eligible children and grandchildren can receive over $1,000 in government-funded dental benefits over two calendar years, allowing us to provide essential care with zero out-of-pocket costs.

What is covered by Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

The scheme covers everyday dental needs, including:
  • Check-ups and cleans
  • X-rays and fillings
  • Extractions and root canal treatments

Who is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule and how long does it last?

Children aged 0 to 17 are eligible if they are enrolled in Medicare and their family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or other relevant government support payments. The funds are available to use across a two-year period.

Will all Dentists accept Child Dental Benefits Schedule patients?

We accept CDBS patients here at Teeth@Mittagong. We handle the paperwork and can easily check your eligibility and remaining balance on your behalf so you know exactly where you stand.

Can I use my private health insurance with Child Dental Benefits Schedule services?

While you cannot claim from both the CDBS and your private health fund for the exact same treatment, you are welcome to use your private insurance for any services not covered by the government scheme.

Cosmetic Dentistry

If you are looking to refresh your smile, we are here to help.
Whether your teeth have become chipped, worn, or discoloured over the years, the team at Teeth@Mittagong provides gentle cosmetic care to restore a natural, healthy look you can feel great about.

Our innovative cosmetic treatments

We offer simple, effective solutions, including Porcelain Veneers, Composite Resin Veneers, Porcelain Crowns and Bridges, Dental Implants and Teeth Whitening. Our goal is to help you achieve a beautiful, balanced smile that looks completely natural, allowing you to feel confident and comfortable.

Porcelain Veneers

Transform your smile with porcelain veneers, a gentle cosmetic treatment available at Teeth@Mittagong.
They offer a simple, effective way to repair chipped, worn, or discoloured teeth, providing a strong and long-lasting result.

What are porcelain veneers?

They are ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain shells designed to fit perfectly over the front of your teeth. This treatment is highly personalised and usually completed in just two appointments.

The porcelain veneers treatment process:

Initial Consultation

We sit down with you to discuss your goals, ensuring the shape and shade perfectly suit your natural smile and facial structure.

Tooth Preparation

We gently prepare the surface of your teeth so the veneers sit flush and comfortably. We then take impressions to custom-craft your new smile.

Bonding

Your dentist will carefully bond each veneer into place, ensuring a beautifully natural, balanced, and secure result.

How long do veneers last?

Made from durable, stain-resistant porcelain, your veneers will look just like natural teeth. With a good everyday oral hygiene routine, they typically last between 7 and 10 years.

The many benefits of porcelain veneers…

Veneers are incredibly popular because they offer a highly natural look that perfectly mimics real tooth enamel. Custom-designed for you, they seamlessly conceal wear, gaps, and discolouration without the need for lengthy or uncomfortable orthodontic treatments.

Composite Resin Veneers

Composite Resin Veneers, also known as Composite Bonding or Composite Veneers are thin coatings that are placed over the surface of the teeth to enhance their appearance. The composite is a tooth coloured material that comes in different shades. They are a great alternative to Porcelain Veneers and the cost is less than Porcelain Veneers. It is, however, a technically demanding procedure for a dentist to get right and requires time and meticulous care by the dentist.

Pros & Cons

Pros: More affordable than porcelain, easily repaired if chipped, and generally require less removal of your natural tooth enamel.

Cons: More prone to staining and chipping than porcelain, and they generally have a shorter lifespan (typically lasting 5 to 7 years).

ZOOM! Teeth Whitening Mittagong

Teeth Whitening Over time, it is natural for teeth to lose their brightness. We provide safe, professional care to restore your smile's natural glow.
Teeth @ Mittagong use ZOOM! Teeth Whitening We use the highly effective ZOOM! system. We offer both in-chair treatments and convenient take-home kits so you can brighten your smile at your own pace.

What causes tooth discolouration?

Stains naturally build up over the years, most commonly from everyday enjoyments like coffee, tea, and red wine, as well as smoking, certain medications, or shadows from old silver fillings.

Is teeth whitening safe for my teeth?

Yes. Whitening is completely safe when supervised by our experienced dentists. We assess your dental health first to ensure a gentle, comfortable experience that protects your enamel.

How long will the treatment last?

With good daily brushing and home maintenance with “touch-up” whitening kits your results can last for years. Limiting dark liquids and smoking will also help maintain the brightness.

What is the maintenance after my treatment?

We provide simple aftercare instructions and offer easy touch-up kits to help you keep your smile looking fresh at home.

Dental Implants: The Gold Standard for Tooth Replacement

Regain the freedom to eat, speak, and smile without hesitation.
Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants provide a stable, long-term solution that looks, feels, and functions like your natural teeth.

What is a Dental Implant?

Think of an implant as a high-tech "artificial root." It is a biocompatible titanium screw placed into the jawbone. Once healed, it provides a solid foundation for a custom-made crown, bridge, or stable denture.

The Path to a Permanent Smile Placement: The implant is surgically positioned into the site of the missing tooth.

Integration: Over a few months, the implant naturally fuses with your jawbone (a process called osseointegration), creating a durable anchor.

Restoration: Once healed, we attach your bespoke porcelain crown or bridge to complete your smile.

Proven Safety & Biocompatibility

Dental implants are crafted from the same medical-grade titanium used in hip and knee replacements. They are highly biocompatible, meaning the body accepts them as natural bone. With decades of global research and success, implants are a safe, predictable, and highly effective way to restore your oral health.

Drs Jerry Basson and Nicholas Plokstys are now available for consultations for dental implants.

Root Canal Therapy: Saving Your Natural Tooth

Think of root canal therapy as a rescue mission for your tooth.
While extraction was once the only option for a deep infection, modern technology allows us to save your natural tooth with a procedure that is now as routine and comfortable as a standard filling.

Why Choose Root Canal Therapy?

Eliminate Pain: The goal is to remove the source of discomfort and heal the infection.

Preserve Your Smile: Nothing functions quite as well as a natural tooth. A root canal allows you to keep your tooth rather than replacing it with an implant or bridge.

Clean & Protect: After cleaning the infected "pulp" from the tooth and and sealing the clean root canal, we often place a custom dental crown to restore strength and structural integrity to the tooth.

Crowns & Bridges

When a tooth is damaged or missing, it affects more than just your smile—it affects your bite, your speech, and your confidence.
Our porcelain restorations are designed to blend with your natural teeth while providing the long-term durability you need.

Custom Dental Crowns

A crown (or "cap") is the ultimate protection for a tooth weakened by decay, large fillings, or root canal therapy.

Invisible Protection: We use high-grade porcelain that is color-matched to your natural teeth, making the restoration virtually indistinguishable.

Same-Day Convenience: Thanks to our on-site CEREC technology, we can often design, create, and fit your custom crown in just one appointment.

Dental Bridges

If you are missing one or more teeth, a bridge effectively "bridges the gap" to restore your smile’s symmetry.

Prevent Shifting: By filling the void left by a missing tooth, a bridge prevents your remaining teeth from tilting or shifting out of alignment.

Secure Stability: A bridge consists of a custom replacement tooth held firmly in place by crowns on the healthy teeth adjacent to the gap, providing a secure and permanent alternative to partial dentures.

TMJ & Jaw Pain: Finding a Dental Solution for Chronic Discomfort

Are you living with chronic headaches, neck tension, or a clicking jaw?
These are often signs of TMD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction)—a condition affecting your jaw joint or the muscles around it. While many people treat these as medical issues, the root cause is often dental, and the relief you need could be simpler than you think.
Common Signs of TMD:
  • Constant headaches or migraines.
  • Pain or tenderness in the face, neck, and shoulders.
  • A clicking, popping, or grating sound when you eat or speak.
  • A "locked" jaw or limited range of motion.
  • Facial swelling or tooth sensitivity from grinding.

The Source of the Stress

TMD may be triggered by bruxism (day or night-time tooth grinding), stress, or a misaligned bite. When your jaw doesn't sit comfortably, it puts constant strain on the surrounding muscles and nerves.

How We Help

Dentists can help in diagnosing the source of your jaw pain. By assessing your bite and jaw alignment, we can provide targeted treatments—such as custom-fitted occlusal splints (night guards) or bite adjustments—to relieve pressure, protect your teeth, and finally stop the cycle of chronic pain. Other specialised treatments are also available and Dr Louise McDonald is now available for consultations to discuss treatment options.

NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION

For patients who feel nervous about dental treatment, we offer nitrous oxide sedation to help promote relaxation and comfort during procedures. Nitrous oxide, is a minimal sedation technique in dentistry, and patients remain conscious and responsive throughout treatment. Suitability for sedation is determined following clinical assessment.
